Costa Rica Boating
Costa Rica has several boat trips that are well worth doing and are
perhaps the most interesting way to get from one region to another.
Traveling by boat across the eastern end of Lake Arenal is
expensive, but by far the fastest and most beautiful way to travel
between Arenal and Monteverde. There is a fascinating four-hour boat
trip from Puerto Viejo on the Sarapiqui River into Nicaragua on the
San Juan and on the Tortuguero. The boat trip from Caño Blanco to
Tortuguero is also worth doing.
Here are some of the most exciting boating tours:
Taxi boat from Arenal Volcano to Monteverde
Enjoy a unique means of transportation from La Fortuna to Monteverde.
After getting to the Lake Arenal you will take a tour on the lake
with a motor boat and will have the opportunity to admire the
breathtaking views of Arenal Volcano and the Costa Rican country
side. On the way back you will pass through Santa Elena along farms
and villages.
Cano Negro Wildlife Reserve
The refuge is considered one of the richest spots on the continent
in bird watching and many other animals: sloths, three types of
monkeys, caiman, lizards and also a large variety of flora. The tour
of this lovely region starts in La Fortuna, passing through Los
Chiles, a small town, right at the Nicaraguan border. From here you
can take a boat down to Rio Frio and you’ll see many different types
of plantations, as well as flora and fauna of the region.
Catamaran Coastal Adventure
You will discover Manuel Antonio coastline and glide through crystal
clear pacific waters and explore the marvelous islands that lie
offshore the Costa Rican coats. The towering cliffs host numerous
varieties of birds and you can usually watch spotted dolphins, giant
sea turtles and even humpback whales. As the Catamaran into a
beautiful isolated bay you can swim protected by the cover of
tropical jungle.
Crocodile Night Tour
Nightlife is the perfect time for a wildlife tour as you will get a
whole new perspective and no other spot will do than a mangrove
swamp. The Great Terraba River is the longest river and it carries
the largest water volume in the whole country. The trip will expose
you some of the inhabitants of two most ancient tribes of the area,
the Terrabas and the Borucas. You will see bats, opossums, sloths,
owls, raccoons, snakes, frogs and last but not least the American
Crocodile.
Curu Explorer by Boat
Setting sail from Tambor Beach you will glide along the beautiful
coastline of Bahia Ballena with breathtaking cliffs and ancient
caves. You might see some dolphins, turtles and whales on the way to
Curu and on your way back you can make a stop by the sunken German
steamer Banana Express, since it is a great place for snorkeling.
You will see some beautiful tropical fish in these cool waters.
Lake Arenal Sunset Cruise
Enjoy an amazing sunset on Lake Arenal and some breath taking views
of the Arenal Volcano. This lovely boat trip will give you the
chance to see a huge variety of birds like flycatchers, kingfishers,
anhinga and mammals like monkeys, coatis and sloths.
